In 2010, the Richmond Bay Watershed Association Inc started watershed restoration activities on Smelt Creek Watershed, located in Wellington Center, Prince Edward Island. The work carried out involved in-stream restoration activities, the removal of a major obstruction at the head of tide and partnering with the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal to resolve drainage issues and sediment inputs from un-paved roads. Other efforts include public education and awareness through newsletters and public meetings.
Watershed restoration techniques highlighted in this website are relevant and applicable to PEI. They may/may not be applicable to other jurisdictions. Please consult relevant Municipal, Provincial and Federal agencies in your area for more information.
